Brooke Barak,
LMT.

Hawaii-born, Washington-practicing. Six years and counting of hands-on, evidence-based bodywork — for athletes, expectant mothers, and anyone whose body is asking for a different kind of attention.

I grew up where the ocean teaches patience.

Beach sunsets. Ocean tides. The scent of Pikake flower and the grounding energy of the land. Hawaii is the place that taught me how to listen — to water, to weather, to the way bodies move when they're at ease.

The word Nalu is Hawaiian. It means a wave. It also means to ponder, to meditate, to listen for rhythm. That's not branding — that's how I work.

When I put my hands on someone, I'm listening for the wave underneath.

I moved to Vancouver, Washington for the Pacific Northwest's quiet — and to build a practice that honors both places. The water is colder here, but the rhythm is the same.

I'm a licensed massage therapist specializing in deep tissue, sports massage, and injury recovery. Most of my clients fall into one of three groups: athletes carrying training load, expectant mothers needing prenatal support, and people in active recovery from injury. The common thread? Everyone's body is in motion — even the still ones.

Background

Before bodywork, I was a high-level competitive tennis player. That's where I first learned what athletic bodies need — and what it feels like when something's off.

Working through my own injuries gave me empathy. My background in biochemistry gave me a foundation. Together, they shape every session I run.

How I work

No scripts. No cookie-cutter routines. Each session starts with a brief conversation about what's going on in your body that day, and adjusts in real time as we go. If something needs more pressure, we go deeper. If something needs less, we ease back.

Insurance is welcome. Aetna, Kaiser, Heraya Health, and most auto insurance plans are accepted. The session itself runs the same; only the billing changes.

What you can expect

A quiet studio. A clean private room. Sheets, music, soft light. A practitioner who's done the reading and listens when you tell her how it feels. And, most weeks, an opening within 7-10 days.

A note on intent
"My job isn't to fix you. It's to listen for the rhythm and clear the way for it."

Credentials & Practice

Trained, credentialed, and continuing.

Licensed Massage Therapist

State of Washington licensure. Maintained continuing education in soft-tissue science, sports recovery, and prenatal practice.

6+ Years of Practice

Hands-on bodywork in active recovery, sports settings, and pre/postnatal care. Most clients come back monthly.

Biochemistry Foundation

University-level studies in biochemistry inform every session. The body is a system; the science explains why pressure works where it works.

Athlete Background

High-level competitive tennis taught me what training load feels like — and what it feels like when an injury is brewing. Empathy via experience.

Insurance Accepted

Aetna, Kaiser, Heraya Health, and most auto insurance plans. Bring your card to your first visit; we sort the rest.

Hawaiian Roots

Born and raised in Hawaii. The brand name Nalu is a wave — and the word for paying attention to rhythm. Both apply.

Outside the studio

Family, water, and the slow unfolding of a day.

When I'm not working, I'm with my husband and our young son — usually outside, usually near water. The Pacific Northwest's parks, the coast, the rare clear-day hike. Anywhere we can let the kid run and the day unfold at its own speed.

I bring that pace into the studio. Sessions don't rush. There's a reason most clients leave their phones in the car.

Calm. Restore. Perform.
